The mouthpiece resembles a double-broken bit, but cannot be folded like a normal bit. This is because the bit blocks under counterpressure, turning it into a bar. This prevents the nutcracker effect and the bit works more on the corners of the mouth instead of on the palate and tongue.

With less pressure on the reins, the bit changes back to a single broken bit. This can contribute to the horse's learning process to release pressure itself.
